Gordon Melvin Goudey

Gordon Melvin Goudey, 87, of Seven Lakes North, passed Sunday, February 21, at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 26, at West End Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Lyons officiating.

    Mr. Goudey was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Avard P. Goudey and Minnie Kantro Goudey. He graduated from Arcadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and earned a master’s degree from NYU. He was a professor of math and an avid model airplane club member He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. Mr. Goudey offered a tutoring service for math and computers, introduced computers to several colleges, and was interested in building canoes and sailboats. He met his wife when they were both teachers at Greer School, near Millbrook, N.Y. The Greer was a school for children from broken homes.

    After retiring to Seven Lakes in 1989, Mr. Goudey was instrumental in starting the Computer Club and promoting the airplane club in Seven Lakes.

    He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Bette Thomas Goudey; a son, George Thomas Goudey and wife, Martha, of Mebane; a daughter, Lorna Goudey Hodge, of Raleigh; grandsons, Eric Allen Hodge and Alexander Thomas Hodge, of Raleigh; and a brother, Alan Goudey of Glen Rock, N.J.
