Chief Master Sgt. William L. Parker Sr.

Chief Master Sgt. William L. Parker Sr., U.S. Air Force [Ret.], 69, of Seven Lakes West, passed away Thursday, February 4, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. A Funeral Mass is planned for 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 9, at Our Lady of the Americas Church in Candor, with burial in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

    Chief Master Sgt. Parker was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late William Iredell Parker and Ola Burrell Parker, formerly of Charlotte and Gastonia. He joined the U.S. Air Force in September 1958. His notable jobs include crew member URC-44 “Talking Bird” in 1967 and 1970, with flying command post and staff position from 1971-1975. He helped create the 304X6 Satellite Communications Career Field and was Air Force liaison officer to the USA Satellite Communication Agency from 1975-1981. From 1982-198, he served as the tactical communications manager with national reconnaissance officer for the U.S. Air Force. Following his retirement in 1987, he worked as a civilian contractor with Space Applications Corporation from 1987-1989. In 1989, Chief Master Sgt. Parker returned to government service as a civilian, working in various agencies and offices including the Office of Special Technology, and in April 2004, he retired from the Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.

    He retired to Seven Lakes West and served on the Board as Architectural Review Director. He enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, and enjoying time with his wife.

    He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth A. Parker; his son, William Larry Parker Jr., of Miami, Fla.; his daughter, Lisa Nicole Bennink and her husband Michael, of Hightstown, N.J.; two grandchildren, Phoebe Grace Bennink and Parker Joseph Bennink, of Hightstown, N.J.; and loved by three stepdaughters and six step-grandchildren.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arrhythmia Center, c/o FirstHealth Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
