Patrick Kenneth Patterson, 64, of Seven Lakes and Aberdeen, died peacefully on Friday, November 27, at the Durham VA Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 2, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 1, at Boles Funeral Home of Seven Lakes from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Pat was born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Phillip and Eleanore Patterson. He attended Lakewood High School and Max Hayes Technical School before entering the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years.  He returned to the Cleveland area and started a long career in commercial construction, working on projects ranging from restaurants to submarine simulators. He relocated, along with his family, to the Seven Lakes area in 1983. He continued working in the commercial construction field until his first bout with cancer in 1997. Following that, he started his own business dealing with previously owned cars and construction remodeling, until his retirement two years ago.

Pat was known for his love of family, friends, and his motorcycle. Affectionately known as Captain America by his motorcycle friends and cohorts, he completed a cross-country trip to California on his beloved bike, amazing friends and family alike. He was involved in many charitable rides and at one time was recognized by the governor of North Carolina for his volunteer work at Samarkand. His smile and wit were endearing qualities appreciated by all. Even during his last days, his sense of humor and appreciation of everyone kept family and staff sustained.

He is survived by his wife Jerri; daughters Colleen Weldy and husband Wiley, of San Diego, CA, and Heidi Chase of the home; grandchildren, Patrick Cresswell, Mary Chase, and Faith Chase; brothers Phillip Patterson of Locust, NC, Kenneth Patterson of Charlotte, NC; sister Margaret of Greenville, NC and four nieces.

During his stays at the Durham VA Hospital he became friends with a priest from India who volunteered his time as chaplain. During their many conversations it became known that he was working diligently to establish a church in the Durham area dedicated to our Lady of Lourdes. Pat’s last wish was to help him build his church. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, memorials in Pat’s name may be sent to Father Augustine Kizhakkedam, Lourdes Matha Catholic Church, 1412 Park Place Ave.  Morrisville, NC 27560.

Boles Funeral Home of Seven Lakes is serving the family.
