Week Ahead LogoHere's The Seven Lakes Times' guide to key events happening this week.  Be sure and note the Seven Lakes Civic Group Annual Meeting on Tuesday; Moore County Board of Commissioners Chairman Nick Picerno has the keynote.

 

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16
•    President’s Day
•    Moore County Board of Commissioners Meeting – 6 pm, Historic Courthouse, Carthage.
•    Republican Precinct Meeting – 7:30 pm, Seven Lakes Fire Hall, Seven Lakes Drive. All registered Republicans are welcome. District Attorney Maureen Krueger is expected to visit. Elections will be held for precinct officers, delegates, and alternates for the Moore County Convention scheduled for Saturday, Mar 14.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17
•    League of Women Voters Meeting – 11:30 am, Table on the Green, Midland Country Club, Pinehurst. Award-winning local author Jerry D. ‘Dusty’ Rhoades is the featured speaker. The public is welcome to attend. Tickets are $12 and include lunch. Reservations, Charlotte Gallagher 944-9611 by February 13.
•    Moore County Chamber of Commerce Lunchinar –11:45 am, Moore County Chamber of Commerce.  Program presenter Karen Brown, of Kensington Speakers Group, is an expert in helping business owners “do business better” through time management. •    Seven Lakes Civic Group Annual Meeting – 7:30 pm, West Side Park Community Center. Guest speaker Nick Picerno, Chair of the Moore County Board of Commissioners, will discuss issues of interest to Seven Lakes and surrounding areas. Open to the public.

 
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18
•    Project Linus Workshop – cancelled due to Red Cross Blood Drive, join the volunteers Wednesday, March 4.
•    Seven Lakes Blood Drive – 1 pm – 6 pm, Seven Lakes North Clubhouse. New donors are welcome. Appointments are available, call 674-4931.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19
•    Women of Seven Lakes Card Party & Luncheon – 11:30 am, Seven Lakes Country Club. Lunch at noon, cards & games follow at 1 pm. Cost is $15 per person in advance. Call Lee Connelly at 673-2521 or Mary Farley at 673-2310.
•    Seven Lakes Forum – 4:30 pm, West Side Park Community Center. Dr. Lori Heim will present ‘The Primary Care Physician:  How patients will be affected by the anticipated changes in the manner in which care is provided.’ All women and men from Seven Lakes, and their guests, are welcome to attend. •    Moore County Board of Commissioners Work Session – 5:00 pm, Historic Courthouse, Carthage. McGill & Associates present options for expanding the county water supply.

•    The Rufus Barringer Civil War Round Table – 7 pm, Southern Pines Civic Club, corner of Ashe Street and Pennsylvania Ave. Chris Fonvielle will speak on “Never Suffer the Machines of War.” Information, 315-1213.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20
•    Project Linus celebrates  “Make a Blanket Day" – 10 am – 5 pm, Bookshop by the Lakes & The Coffee Scene, Seven Lakes Business Village. Make a blanket, complete the one you are working on, drop in to purchase homemade baked goods or just to learn more about Project Linus. The coffee will be hot, the books entertaining, and there will be blankets to tie and label. Be sure to register for a door prize. Tickets to win a watercolor painting by Andrea Schmidt will be available. Information, Pat Weber 673-1457.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21
•    Sweetheart Swing Dinner Dance – 5:30 pm, Seven Lakes Country Club. Everyone’s invited to the festivities. Dinner: penne pasta with vodka pink sauce, chicken & sausage meatballs, a vegetable medley of broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, garlic cheese rolls, and topped off with ice cream for dessert. Music by Glen Davis. Hosts  Tony & Lois Rocco. Member’s $23 inclusive, non-members $28.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22
•    Family Movie Night at Bensalem – 6 pm, Bensalem Presbyterian Church, Eagle Springs. Join the church for pizza and popcorn while viewing the movie “Ice Age.” Kids and adults will enjoy this clever animated film. Handouts will assist teens and adults in discovering spiritual themes embedded in the film. The community is invited to attend. Located on Bensalem Church Road, off Rt. 705, Eagle Springs.
